How to play
-
Read the question
Everyone in the room gets the same question at the same time, with 45 seconds to answer.
-
Type your answer
The game is a chat: type your answer and send it. Capitals, accents and punctuation don't matter.
-
Be the fastest
The first correct answer wins the round. The faster you are, the more points you get. Hints appear over time, but each one costs points.
-
Keep your streak
Win rounds in a row for a streak bonus, or break someone else's streak to take theirs.
Answering
- Capitals, accents and punctuation don't matter, and umlauts can be written either way: “Müller”, “Muller” and “Mueller” all count.
- A leading “the” is optional: “Beatles” answers “The Beatles”.
- Sentences count too: “I think it's Paris” answers “Paris”.
- Some questions ask for several things, such as both names of a duo. Then one message needs all of them, in any order.
- One answer per message: a message that lists other answers besides the right one, like “oxygen helium carbon”, doesn't count.
Hints
Every 10 seconds without a correct answer, a hint reveals some of the answer's letters, up to 3 hints.
Each hint that was shown costs the winner 50 points.
Points
Only the winner of a round scores:
| To start with | 1000 |
|---|---|
| Every second until the answer | −10 |
| Every hint shown | −50 |
| At least | 100 |
| Easy question (more than 80% solve it) | × 0.5 |
| Hard question (less than 20% solve it) | × 1.5 |
A question counts as easy or hard once it was played more than 3 times. Points are rounded to 10.
Streaks
Every round you win in a row adds to your streak. From 5 wins in a row, each round you win earns 100 bonus points, and 100 more for every further 5 wins.
Win the round that ends someone else's streak and you get their streak bonus once.
A streak ends after 1 hour without a win.
Leaderboards
The leaderboards rank everyone by points for each day, week, month and year, and for all time. Days start at midnight UTC.
Fair play
- No looking up answers: this isn't a contest of who searches fastest.
- Be nice, and welcome new players. Rude players get banned.
- Found a wrong question? Vote it down or report it after the round, or use /report.
- Someone rude, cheating or spamming? Report them: tap their name and then Report, use the flag on their message, or type /report @name. Moderators see who reported, and what was said.
Chat commands
Type these in the chat; / opens the list there too. Type @ and a name to mention a player: they hear a ping, and it's highlighted for them. Staff can always be mentioned, to ask for help. With notifications on, you hear about mentions while you're away too. Links can be posted to TriviaRoyale itself and to well-known sites, such as encyclopedias, museums, news and video sites. Win a few rounds first, and post one a minute at most.
